What is eating you? Like water on stone, drip, drip, dripping until you are on your last nerve? The last straw? Seeing red? This workshop will look at the phenomenon of being triggered. For the past two years, I have been working on a book entitled Triggers, based upon my observations of this response, of which we are so graphically descriptive. What role do archetypes play? Demon dwellers of the unconscious or reptilian vestiges?
I was trained by James Hillman, the originator of “archetypal psychology.” In the twenty-five years that have passed, I have come to some conclusions about his map of the psyche. What if we have outgrown this mythic container, the Greek pantheon? What if, for example, the roles of maiden, mother and crone are only optional slivers of life experiences? Perhaps we are being asked to “think again,” as Adam Grant suggests. Are triggers a call to mindfulness?
NOTE: This event is free with an option to make a donation to the Jung Society of Washington.
