What is eating you? Like water on stone, drip, drip, dripping until you are on your last nerve? The last straw? Seeing red? This workshop will look at the phenomenon of being triggered. For the past two years, I have been working on a book entitled Triggers, based upon my observations of this response, of which we are so graphically descriptive. What role do archetypes play? Demon dwellers of the unconscious or reptilian vestiges?
I was trained by James Hillman, the originator of “archetypal psychology.” In the twenty-five years that have passed, I have come to some conclusions about his map of the psyche. What if we have outgrown this mythic container, the Greek pantheon? What if, for example, the roles of maiden, mother and crone are only optional slivers of life experiences? Perhaps we are being asked to “think again,” as Adam Grant suggests. Are triggers a call to mindfulness?
Druscilla French, Ph.D., holds degrees in English and Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and in Depth Psychology and Mythology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Her background is in archetypal psychology, conflict resolution, women’s studies, and human potential. She is the author of three novels: Shadows on Samhain, Solstice on Ice, and Divining Women. Triggers is a work in progress.
