Late in his life, C. G. Jung once stated that music should be a part of every analysis. Analyst Mario Jacoby stated, "For me, music is the very ‘royal road’ to experience soul, to awaken to its call.” In this workshop, we will explore the relationship between music and psyche as a “royal road” to the depths of the psyche. We will discuss the role of music as a mediator between consciousness and the unconscious in the process of individuation. We will have an experience of music as it partners with the soul and expands the ego’s awareness of the transcendent.
Janis Maxwell, PhD, is a training analyst and member of the faculty of the C.G. Jung Institute in Zürich, where she is involved in training analysts to use music in their practice. She has served as President and Director of Training of the Philadelphia Jung Institute as well as Director of Training for the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts.
