An Evening With Brendan Feeley: The Astrological Chart of C.G. Jung: The Man and his Life

PAST EVENTS

Astrology is of particular interest to the psychologist, since it contains a sort of psychological experience which we call projected - this means that we find the psychological facts as it were in the constellations. This originally gave rise to the idea that these factors derive from the stars, whereas they are merely in a relation of synchronicity with them. I admit that this is a very curious fact which throws a peculiar light on the structure of the human mind.

- C.G. Jung, 1947, Letter to Prof. B.V. Raman

Jung included himself in the lineage of a group of great thinkers, such as Goethe, Schiller, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche, saying that thinkers such as these did not “appear en serie, they only happen here and there.” To those who are dedicated to his work, Jung was indeed a remarkable man who lived a remarkable life. He deserves his place in this lineage, and his work could be regarded as a culmination of the scholarship of these earlier thinkers.

The purpose of this lecture is to gain further insight into Jung’s genius, his attributes, and his extraordinary gifts as a writer, artist, teacher, and leader. He was one of the world’s most important writers who regarded astrology to be “the psychology of antiquity and the Middle Ages.” To Jung, “anybody who has passed through all the planetary spheres is free from compulsion; he has won the crown of victory and become like a god.”

The movement of the planets has to do with cycles in time, cycles of becoming. They indicate our development through the seven spheres of existence, or the seven operations of the Great Work of the ancient alchemists.

In this lecture, we will look at the planetary configuration that gave rise to Jung’s remarkable qualities, as well as the critical periods of his life that gave rise to the man who has become such a powerful inspiration for so many in a world that might otherwise be rendered meaningless.
