I have grappled with the notion of evolution of consciousness and of archetypes. The Triple Goddess (maiden, mother, crone) is problematic for several reasons. First, it objectifies women, focusing on their biological functions and their service to glorified heroic men. It is important to remember that the Greeks rarely lived beyond their mid-thirties. The feminine archetypal models from the Greek perspective focus on reproduction and assistance in military victory. It is a brutal, patriarchal mythology. What lies in the unconscious depths to empower women beyond these limited roles? What becomes of archetypal powers when we revision them apart from gender stereotypes? Let's explore the possibilities together...

Druscilla French, Ph.D., holds degrees in English and Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and in Depth Psychology and Mythology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Her background is in archetypal psychology, conflict resolution, women’s studies, and human potential. She is the author of three novels: Shadows on Samhain, Solstice on Ice, and Divining Women.
