Join Heather Cronin, a longtime practitioner of meditation, who will discuss various aspects of mindfulness meditation, including the healing potential of a regular meditation practice. She'll share some insights into the causes of suffering from a Buddhist perspective and explain how meditation can benefit one's mind and body. She'll touch on her own journey with chronic health issues and how her experiences with meditation and other practices have been healing for her. Heather will then lead participants in a mindfulness meditation exercise so that we can all get a feel for this practice.
"I will teach that it is important now, in this time, to harness our ability to connect to wisdom. Meditation and right motivation can help prepare one to respond effectively to crises personally and in service of the community. Meditation is not all about self care and relaxation, but about discovering and living in the light that is our true nature. After a time of marinating in that light, our actions resemble more and more what we need to heal...not just ourselves, but our world. The practice(s) of meditation can be the thing that stumps many people even with the best intentions."
NOTE: This event is free with an option to make a donation to the Jung Society of Washington.
Heather Cronin shares: “I was first introduced to meditation through a Transcendental Meditation (TM) teacher. Later when I began having difficult symptoms from my lung disease (I have had three lung transplant surgeries due to Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis), my husband and I officially learned TM together. The mantra method gave us something to focus on when in pain and fear. Eventually I took other opportunities to learn different meditation methods. I have attended three silent retreats and other retreats to deepen my understanding of Buddhism and meditation in general. As I heal, both physically and emotionally, there is space and energy to be of service as a teacher of these empowering methods. I am a certified teacher of Mindfulness Meditation through Dharma Drum and Tibet House. Just recently I completed a course on the Body and meditation where I became familiar with practitioners with chronic pain and other things that present barriers to sitting meditation."
