This program meets on Wednesdays, May 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2026
This program WILL BE RECORDED.
Jung’s notion of image plays a pivotal role in his concept of the psyche. The process of individuation, the transformation of structures or “attitudes” of consciousness into new forms -- the very flow of life itself -- is understood as an imagistic process. What does this mean? How are we to understand image as central to the life of the soul?
It is easy to simply glide over this aspect of Jung’s work, attributing it to a flirtation with “mysticism.” On the other hand, we also may penetrate the world of image more deeply as we begin to understand its many natures, observing how it holds our worlds together.
If we slow down and take a deeper look into the nature of what Jung is articulating and examine more closely just how image is functioning in our immediate experience -- how it is working within itself, within us, and upon us -- we will find immense complexity and a wide range of insights regarding the functions and roles of image in our lives.
In this four-class course, we will explore differing aspects of image, how such aspects are functioning, what roles it plays in the process of psyche’s self-evolvement, and just why Jung’s assertion that “Image is Psyche” is astoundingly accurate.
